New blog title and a call to action

You’ll notice that the title of this blog has changed to Sacred Heart Parish is using the grace of our Renewal Year to advance the mission of our parish which is to become disciples at home in the heart of Jesus Christ. Stewardship is a way of life by which a willing follower of Jesus acknowledges everything as a gift from God and then uses those gifts for God’s glory and the good of our neighbor. This blog will serve as a tool to help us see the beauty of living this way.

The Supreme Court will soon be communicating a ruling on a definition of marriage. Before now marriage did not need to be defined. The state simply acknowledged the reality of marriage. That is, a permanent union of a man and woman tending toward the procreation and education of children. This ruling will have a deep and lasting impact on our culture no matter what is decided.

We believe in the power of intercessory prayer and so we invite you to join our parish and the wider Catholic community to pray for marriage this week. Join us for a Eucharistic Exposition and Adoration vigil to begin at 7 p.m on Thursday, June 25th. We will have sign up opportunities at the Welcome Desk at St. Mary’s and Sacred Heart Church this weekend, or you may contact the parish office at 402-371-2621 to sign up for a time. We hope every hours is filled with multiple adorers.

To Jesus through Mary

This Saturday was a great day for Sacred Heart Parish. Archbishop Lucas and 10 priests celebrated Mass with our deacons and hundreds of parishioners and guests. At the end of Mass Archbishop Lucas led us in a prayer of consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Our commission is to go and spread the good news about Jesus so that others can know abundant life in Him. Here are a couple pictures from the day. There are more to come.

Archbishop Lucas offers the prayer of Consecration:

At the end of Mass I offered thanks to all who made this renewal possible.

The glass art panels have been installed and are beautiful.

The time capsule was opened. It contained a catechism, a scapular, rosary, medals and coins. The catechism was wrapped in a copy of the True Voice from October 8, 1965.
